Matthew 5:15-16 (NIV) Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.

Prayer: To be intentional about prayer (both corporate and individual) believing that great things will be seen in our midst. Ephesians 6:18 (NIV) And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people. Psalm 17:6 (NIV) I call on you, my God, for you will answer me; turn your ear to me and hear my prayer. Colossians 4:3 (NIV) Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful.

Discipleship: In many forms, including teaching, to see lives molded to the purpose to which Christ has called them, whether relationally, intellectually or  spiritually. Matthew 28:19 (NIV) Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.

Education: We value the education of the mind, the spirit, and practical skills that will enable us to live out our Christian life-purpose to the highest level of excellence. 2 Timothy 2:15 (NIV) Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who doesn’t need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth.

Family: To be intentional about the purpose of Evangel Heights Church by striving to model an authentic Biblical example of the values God has established for family as and being a place of spiritual adoption for the lost. Joshua 24:15 (NIV) But if serving the Lord seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve…But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord. Psalm 127:3 (NIV) Children are a heritage from the Lord, offspring a reward from Him.
Evangelism: To be intentional about reaching out to the lost, both inside our walls  or outside of our walls as well as beyond our borders. Romans 1:16 (NIV) For I am not ashamed of the gospel because it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes: Mark 16:15 (NIV) he said to them, “Go into al the world and preach the gospel to all creation.

BELIEFS

The Bible: The entire Bible is the inspired Word of God and is God’s way of revealing himself to humankind.  We also believe that Scripture is infallible (never wrong) , and it is our authoritative rule of faith and conduct. (2 Timothy 3:15-17, I Thessalonians 2:13, 2 Peter 1:21) There is one true God God is the creator of the universe.  He is one God yet exists in three personalities: the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.  This is called the Trinity.  The three members of the Trinity are co-equal yet are one God.  (Matthew 28:19, Luke 3:22, Deuteronomy 6:4) Jesus Christ is Fully God.Jesus Christ is the Son of God.  He became human by being born of a virgin and was conceived by the Holy Spirit.  He lived a perfect sinless life and worked many miracles through the anointing of the Holy Spirit.  In order to restore fallen humankind, He died on the Cross as a substitute for the sins of every person.  He physically raised from the dead after three days, displaying His power over sin and death, and is now exalted and seated at the right hand of God.  He will physically return to earth someday to reign as King.  (Matthew 1:22-23, John 1:1-5, Romans 1:3-4, Acts 1:9-11, I Timothy 6:14-15, Is 7:14)
Sin Nature of Humans: Humans were created in the spiritual image of God, to be like Him.   Everyone has tremendous potential for good, but we all have an attitude of disobedience toward God.  This is called sin.  Each person has been separated from God by sin, and this causes many problems for people. (Psalm 8:3-6, Gen 1:27, Romans 3:23)
Salvation: God offers salvation to us as a free gift, but we must accept it.  We can not atone for our sin by ourselves.  We must trust in Jesus Christ and his sacrifice on the cross to be saved from sin’s penalty of death.  In order to be saved, we must ask God to save us, believe that Jesus Christ was raised from the dead, Confess and repent of our sins and declare that Jesus Christ is Lord.  (Romans 6:23, Acts 2:21,  Acts 20:21, Romans 10:9-10, John 14:6)
Communion: We celebrate Communion (also known as the Lord’s Supper) once a month in our Sunday service.  Jesus started this practice (I Cor 11:28-32) as a way to help us remember his death and resurrection.  (Romans 6:23, Acts 2:21,  Acts 20:21, Romans 10:9-10, John 14:6)
Baptism in the Holy Spirit: When a person begins a relationship with Jesus Christ, the Holy Spirit dwells inside the believer.  We believe that baptism in the Holy Spirit is a Biblical experience that follows salvation.  The purposes of the baptism in the Holy Spirit are to help us know Christ better, to assist us in understanding God’s will, and to give us power to witness.   The baptism in the Holy Spirit is given to believers who ask for it.  (John 15:26, John 16:13, Acts 1:8, Acts 2:1-4) 2:34-36, 19:1-6)
Water Baptism: We believe in fully immersing a person in water.  We believe that a person is not saved because they are baptized, but that they are baptized because they are saved.  It is a choice a person makes to obey Jesus’ command and follow His example.  People are baptized in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.  (Matthew 3:13-17, Matthew 28;19, Acts 2:34-36, 19:1-6
The Gifts of the Holy Spirit: In I Corinthians 12-14, the Bible lists many gifts of the Holy Spirit.  The church in the first century practiced these gifts and we should too.  We desire for people to use the gifts God has given them to serve the church as well as others.  The Holy Spirit is given to believers who ask for it.  (John 15:26, John 16:13, Acts 1:8, Acts 2:1-4) 2:34-36, 19:1-6)
Physical Healing in Jesus Christ: We believe that Jesus’ death on the cross provided physical healing to our human bodies.  (Isaiah 53:4-5, James5:14-16)
